Payments and loyalty app for a multi-country retail chain

A large retail chain needed one app for paying at the point of sale, collecting loyalty rewards and buying in store, across several European countries. One of our experts led iOS on that app for about four years, spending weeks on the core design (payment-flow abstraction, loyalty as an independent module) before product code. The app grew to several hundred thousand monthly users across thousands of locations.

Localisation architecture: new country = configuration, not a rebuild

The same retail app had to support several languages, currencies and regional regulations. Our expert designed an internationalisation layer where language, currency and per-market regulatory rules are configuration. Each new market was added without rebuilding the app.

Legacy back end to cloud for a high-traffic retail app

The retail app relied on legacy systems that limited scale and kept costs high. Our expert led the app side of the move to modern cloud infrastructure and worked with global teams on third-party integrations. Scalability improved and operating cost fell; the expert reports user engagement up by roughly a quarter over the period.

Accessibility (WCAG) for a connected consumer-device app

A connected home-device brand needed its companion app to be usable by people with disabilities. One of our experts led maintenance and optimisation of the app with a focus on WCAG compliance, fixing screen-reader, contrast and interaction issues. The app became more inclusive without a rewrite.

Real-time presenter-viewer sync for a pharma-education platform

A telemedicine and pharma-education platform needed presenters and viewers to stay in sync during live video sessions with decision-based content. Our expert built the iOS side with real-time WebSocket synchronisation, refactored for performance and security, and kept usability and accessibility in focus for healthcare users.

Architecture reviews before investment decisions

Investors and developers needed to know whether a product's codebase could carry the next stage. The expert reports leading dozens of independent architecture reviews, some feeding investment decisions. The usual findings: business logic in the UI layer, payment validation inside views, and tight coupling that a single third-party API deprecation exposes. We pair this expert with a second reviewer on early audits.

Engineering leadership of a small mobile-first studio

A small studio spread its engineers across many small contracts, with lots of context switching and onboarding overhead. As technical lead the expert introduced performance reviews and career ladders and refocused the studio on fewer, larger engagements that matched the team's real strengths. The expert reports lower attrition and a much higher average contract value.

Mobile app to web app on the existing Firebase back end

A rewards app (coins, digital items, gift cards) was mobile-only and limited by app-store distribution rules. In a studio this expert helped lead, the team rebuilt it as a responsive Next.js web app on the unchanged Firebase back end, keeping accounts, coin earning, the rewards store, referrals and support. Users can move between phone and browser with the same account, and browser users can join without installing anything.

Multi-market e-commerce storefront for a parts retailer

A European parts retailer wanted to stop depending on marketplaces and sell directly. The expert led delivery of a Next.js storefront connected to the existing WooCommerce catalogue and warehouse system, with several languages, search by vehicle model, social login and Apple Pay / Google Pay. Sales moved to the retailer's own channel.

Membership app with many integrations (studio project)

A members' club needed one app for bookings (restaurant, rooms, events), memberships with different access tiers, and a content feed, on mobile and web. A studio the expert helped lead built a React Native app and a web portal on one shared back end, integrated with subscription payments, a restaurant POS, calendar booking and push notifications. Members use one account on phone and browser.

§ 04What you can book

WCAG accessibility review of an existing app

A team needs its iOS / React Native / web app to meet WCAG (often for a customer or regulator) and doesn't know where it stands. The expert reviews screens with assistive technologies and the code behind them.

You get

An issue list ranked by severity, code-level fixes for the worst items, and review rules so new PRs don't add regressions.

Second opinion on an AI-built or vibe-coded mobile MVP

A founder has a React Native or Next.js + Firebase MVP built quickly with AI tools and wants to know if it can carry real users and payments. The expert checks where business and payment logic live, how failures are handled (network drops mid-transaction, retries), auth and data rules, and app-store readiness.

You get

A short keep / fix / rewrite map with the first fixes ranked.

Questions buyers ask

What does a mobile architecture review usually find in a startup's app?+
A frequent finding is business logic living in the UI layer, for example payment validation inside view controllers or screens. The app works in a demo but every structural change touches many files. A review maps these couplings and proposes module boundaries before the first big third-party API change makes them expensive.
How do you design a mobile app that has to launch in several countries?+
Make languages, currencies and per-market regulatory rules configuration rather than code, and keep the payment flow and loyalty logic behind their own abstractions. Then a new market is mostly a configuration change instead of a rebuild. One of our mobile architects did this for a retail payments app used in several European countries.
Can an existing iOS or React Native app be made WCAG compliant without a rewrite?+
Usually yes. An accessibility review lists concrete issues (labels for screen readers, dynamic type, contrast, focus order, touch-target sizes) by severity, and most fixes fit into normal maintenance releases. A rewrite is only worth it when the UI layer is so tangled that each fix breaks something else.
Should a mobile-only product add a web version?+
If app-store rules or install friction limit growth, a responsive web app on the same backend can reach browser users while keeping accounts and progress in sync. The key is to reuse the existing backend and auth rather than fork the business logic.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you need — the repo or system, the question, and the deadline.
  2. We match an expert from the network, with a second reviewer where it helps.
  3. Scoped work, contracted through Invental — review per pull request, a fixed-scope audit or architecture review, or ongoing capacity.
